Women weaving words into the soft of the evening on the plaza in front of the Comox Valley Art Gallery.
Join us for two hours of women sharing their words, their sounds, their voices.
Women writers are invited to bring your poetry, your lyric prose, your storytelling, your spoken muse, your lyrics, your song, your music.
We will start the evening with a selection of readings/performances and then move on to an open mic format.
The Poets
Karin Watson started writing poetry in the Creative Writing Department at UBC where she gained her MFA. Originally from England, she has made Canada her home since 1971 and moved very happily into the Comox Valley in 2007. She continues to write poetry that explores and celebrates aspects of everyday life.
Medwyn McConachy weaves words into her cross-disciplinary art practice through blogging, ‘medwynmeadering.wordpress.com ’, performance, spoken word and audioscapes. Originally from England Medwyn landed in Courtenay after forty years of meanderings all over Canada. She considers herself a ‘recent’ poet, and is currently interested in finding her life stories through memoir.
Janet Miller was lured to the Comox Valley by green fields, ‘Eggs for Sale’ signs, river swimming, and sandy beaches. Writing since childhood she has found her niche in the succinctness of the short story. An award winning fiction writer, Janet continues her inquiry into styles and methods of writing through courses, workshops and her reading habit.
Beverley Gordon wrote poems as a youngster, but found herself too physically restless to attend to that side of her nature. Later she wrote many songs, but because she did not also play an instrument well, began at last to concentrate on words again—having found herself come full circle.
Marie Maccagno is an educator, wilderness guide, counsellor and mentor. Always a seeker, in 2009 she walked the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage across northern Spain. Marie’s creative memoir recounts the extraordinary moments of her Camino walk and life-changing decisions made. She continues to explore the gifts of silence.
